This top down shawl by Stephen West is shaped with yarn overs to create a semi-circular shape. Garter stitch short rows are worked to add length to the wingspan and they form sleek wedges that increase in size. An I-cord bind off is worked for a smooth finished edge.
This shawl is a great project for a 7-ounce cake of our Fifty Shades of Gradient or go for the subtle tonal shawl and choose an 8-ounce skein of our Walkabout - Fingering yarn. The maker cannot go wrong with either yarn as there won't be much yardage wasted at the end. Perfect!
Finished Measurements: 27 inches by 71 inches from CO to BO Yarn: Fingering Weight Yardage: 925 Yards Needles: US4 (6.5mm) 40" circular needles Gauge: 22 stitches and 44 rows = 4 in (10cm) in garter stitch
Note: Stephen West's pattern is written for both fingering and heavy worsted weight yarns, although we have listed only the fingering measurements above.
